Developing Responsible AI Guidelines for a Canadian University

Client: GUS Canada

Industry: Education

Overview

GUS Canada sought to integrate Generative AI (GenAI) technologies into its academic and operational practices while addressing ethical concerns, privacy issues, and potential biases. BTB Consulting partnered with the university to develop a comprehensive Responsible AI (RAI) framework to guide faculty, staff, and students in using AI responsibly, ethically, and effectively.

Objectives

The primary goals of the project were:

  • Establish Ethical AI Practices: Develop clear principles for AI usage aligned with the university’s values and societal standards.
  • Enhance AI Literacy: Empower university members with knowledge about AI capabilities, limitations, and ethical considerations.
  • Mitigate Risks: Address concerns related to data privacy, algorithmic bias, and intellectual property.
  • Support Equity and Inclusion: Ensure AI tools are accessible and used fairly across all demographics.
  • Promote Innovation: Foster responsible AI adoption to enhance teaching, learning, research, and operational efficiency.

Approach

BTB Consulting employed a structured methodology to design the Responsible AI framework:
